Morpho Portis Butterfly Earrings, Iridescent Blue Butterfly Earrings
These earrings are made with the incredibly small but beautiful Morpho Portis butterfly. The wings of this butterfly are an unusually delicate light blue color, shot throughout with glossy reflections, and which only distally darkens somewhat towards violet with dark spotted fringes on it's hindwings. This naturally expired butterfly has been purchased from a licensed supplier in Ontario Canada. They are made with Wings layered between two pieces plastic laminate to protect it. At the top of the wing there are matching pale blue sea glass beads and set on surgical steel ear wires.
Handcrafted by me in my London Ontario Canada studio. Though my pieces are watertight, they are not 100% waterproof so care should be taken to not allow these to get wet.
Butterflies & Insects used in my pieces have been sustainably raised and bred on insect farms globally and play an important role in Conservation programs. Many governments and conservation programs (WWF & Nature Canada) teach sustainable practices of raising insects for economic purposes for livelihood rather than jobs that destroy rainforests such as slash and burn agricultural farming and logging. It is important to support such conservation programs that teach these sustainable economic alternatives.
